The quality programme assesses the appropriateness of care and quality of outcomes in breast cancer surgery. The results are discussed with the hospitals in annual quality review meetings to identify areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.

General Information

The quality programme of breast cancer began in 2025. The quality programme is being established and further developed with the Swiss association for Senology. In a first step, the process and outcome quality in surgical procedures will be analyzed. Subsequently, indication quality benchmarks, as well as benchmarks that provide insight into the long-term care of patients with breast cancer, will be created. Since the introduction of the minimum case number, hospitals have been mandated to register and report primary and secondary surgeons of these procedures.

Expert Group

The following external experts support the creation and further development of the quality programme:

  • PD Dr. med. Constanze Elfgen (SBCDB Representative)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Michael Knauer (Tumor & BrustZentrum Ostschweiz, Secretary General of the Swiss Association for Senology, SGS)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Uwe Güth (Brustzentrum Zürich)
  • Dr. med. Andreas Müller (KSW)
  • Dr. med. Heike Passmann (Stadtspital Zürich, Triemli)
  • PD Dr. med. Christoph Tausch (Past President Swiss Association for Senology, SGS)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Isabell Witzel (USZ)
  • Dr. med. Christoph M. Honegger (Zuger Kantonsspital)
  • Dr. med. Konstantin Dedes (Affiliated Physician)

Updates

-      Update 2025: For breast cancer, routine data is not a sufficient basis to allow for a significant quality analysis. Thus, it was decided, in the kickoff in 2025, that more variables on a case basis will be matched, preferably through a direct register export.
