Reportable life events

At any stage of life, there may occur family or private events that must be reported. For example, births must be reported to the regional Civil Registry Office, marriage dates must be arranged, or partnerships must be registered. The regional Funeral and/or Cemetery Offices will provide the necessary services related to the burial of a deceased person.

Child care

The Canton of Zurich offers a vast range of external child care options. Day nurseries, day-care families or playgroups look after babies and toddlers by the hour or by the day. After-school care centres attend to children during kindergarten and school holidays. The schools often also provide child care outside of school hours. Most of these services are subject to charges and only have a limited number of places available. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you inquire about your options as early as possible.

Family events and places to meet

If you wish to meet with other parents or participate in activities with your children, you will find various offers for mothers and fathers in most of the municipalities of the Canton of Zurich. There are playgroups for babies and toddlers all over the Canton of Zurich. A wide range of events is organized by family and community centres as well as by public libraries. Please check the respective websites to find out about current events.

Questions related to child education and family life

If you have questions about the upbringing of your children or about everyday family life, do not hesitate to contact one of the available counselling centres. You will find family counselling centres in any region of the Canton of Zurich. These centres assist parents if they have questions related to the care and development of children of up to five years of age. Moreover, the regional Child and Youth Support Centres (kjz) offer counselling services to parents and adolescents with regard to parenting questions.
